Hem/Onc Opportunity in Western Massachusetts

Hem/Onc Opportunity in Western Massachusetts
Location is Western Massachusetts where there is a need for a physician in the hematology/oncology specialty. There is currently one hem/onc physician employed by the Medical Center and we are recruiting for another physician at this time. The current physician is board certified in adult IM, hematology, oncology, and palliative care. This is a community hospital (nonprofit); part of the outpatient service includes a hem/onc program. The hem/onc program is a community based and focused program; most cancers are treated here, except acute leukemia. The program is ACOS accredited and we are also accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (1 of 10 in the entire state). Many members of the medical staff were very helpful in their commitment and efforts toward achieving the standards for certification as a breast cancer center. The Registered Nurses in the department are oncology certified. The program takes care of its own transfusions within the department. There are two tumor conferences every month--one for breast cancer and 1 for non breast CA topics. Both are well attended by members of the medical staff We utilize Dana Farber in Boston frequently when a second opinion is warranted on a patient's case; the patient is then transferred back to the Medical Center for ongoing care. There are hem/onc consultations requested by the primary care physicians, surgeons, and specialty surgeons on the medical staff. The medical staff is very collegial and they work well together on behalf of the patients. There is a radiation oncology center attached to the Medical Center; it is run by a national company. The weekend call rotation is 1 weekend in 3 and the week night call (Monday through Thursday) is on an every other week basis. There are few calls and the need to return to the medical center is infrequent at best. As an employee of the Medical Center, this full time, employed physician will have a comprehensive benefit package which will include insurances (health, dental, long term disability, life, and malpractice), paid time off (vacation, holiday, illness and CME), participation in a 403(b) retirement plan, CME allowance, etc. Compensation is negotiable and comparable to the market, based upon years of experience, board certification, etc. The region is in the foothills of the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. There are outstanding private schools at all levels (elementary, secondary, college) and excellent public colleges in close proximity to the Medical Center. The cost of living in Western Massachusetts is significantly less than eastern Massachusetts. The Medical Center is located at the junction of major north/south and east/west highway systems for ease in traveling to the cities, shore, and mountains for winter skiing.
