We're looking for a full-time Medical Director for our newly opened in-hospital Geriatric Mental Health Center the hospital in historic TX. This is a great opportunity for a full-time clinician with interest in helping guide and grow this much-needed new service. The Health Center provides acute, short-term comprehensive mental health services and crisis stabilization for older adults in need of a secure, therapeutic environment 24 hours a day. Patients are typically admitted from home or a nursing facility on a doctor's referral with an acute primary psychiatric diagnosis and symptoms including focus on somatic issues, acute depressive periods, suicidal ideation/behavior, sleeping/eating disturbances, assaultive behavior, and/or obsessive/compulsive issues. Led by the Medical Director, a team of mental health professionals including specialized psychiatric nurses work daily with patients to quickly return them to their optimal level of function outside the hospital. The average length of stay is 10-15 days. Newly opened, 8-bed that's already often at capacity Plans to expand to 25 beds Full state accreditation Experienced, trained staff The hospital is very flexible on structuring it's relationship with the Medical Director, whether employment or a private practice setting with medical directorship arrangement, etc. Board Certification, a solid work history and significant interest in building relationships with nursing homes to encourage referrals are required. Hospital, the larger of two sister hospitals totaling 308 licensed beds, is a regional referral center boasting comprehensive services including a 64-slice CT, DaVinci robotic equipment, the area's first dedicated Women & Children's Center, Open Concept MRI and Level III trauma designation. A regional commercial center known as "the Crossroads of South Texas" it is centrally located between (and within a two hour drive of) Austin, San Antonio and Houston. A community of about 84,000, the city services a regional population of almost 200,000.
